About the role
This role leads the Appeals and Strategic Litigation program across the organisation, ensuring the delivery of high quality criminal legal services and other strategic litigation.As Associate Director, you will provide leadership of the Appeals and Strategic Litigation program and services across the state, in addition to developing and implementing strategic litigation strategies relating to criminal law in line with VLA’s priorities.You will also work closely with the Grants and Quality Assurance team to support appropriate funding decisions for higher court appeals and strategic litigation.This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a principal of a law practice.
- Entitlement to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court’s Register of Practitioners)
- Leadership and management experience preferably gained within a public or private legal sector.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in criminal law including appellate law and practice and in strategic litigation
- Demonstrated experience in providing expert high-level strategic and legal advice to executive and senior management staff.
