The role provides expert consultancy and advice on complex employee relations matters, aligning with CSVs commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent workplace. The Workplace Relations Specialist will work closely with Principal Workplace Relations Specialists, CSV managers, staff, and external stakeholders to manage employee relations issues and contribute to the strategic direction of People Services.The Workplace Relations Specialist reports to the Director, Workplace Relations within CSV’s People Services. Key stakeholders include CSV managers and staff, unions (particularly the CPSU), employee representatives, external legal bodies, and the Fair Work Commission. The role is pivotal in providing strategic and operational support to CSV, ensuring legal compliance, fostering positive employee relations, managing complex disputes, and driving successful organisational change initiatives. This contributes directly to CSV’s success by promoting a productive and fair work environment.Key accountabilities include:

  • Providing high-level consultancy and advice on a wide range of employee relations issues, including performance management, misconduct, and conflict resolution.
  • Supporting consultation with unions and employee representatives on organisational change, restructures, and enterprise bargaining agreements.
  • Conducting investigations into workplace matters, ensuring fairness, transparency, and adherence to relevant policies and legislation.
  • Representing CSV in proceedings at the Fair Work Commission and other relevant bodies, managing complex industrial relations issues.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for change management, including employee consultation and engagement during organisational redesigns and restructures.

About You

  • A tertiary qualification in human resources or employment law is highly desirable, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience providing high-quality Employee Relations advice and solutions within a complex organisation, ideally in the public sector or similar environment.
  • Proven ability to handle complex employee relations matters, including performance management, misconduct, and dispute resolution.
  • Experience in fostering effective relationships unions, employee representatives, and engaging with relevant bodies like the Fair Work Commission.
  • Experience leading and supporting organisational change processes, including restructures and implementing enterprise bargaining outcomes.
  • Specialist Knowledge: A practical understanding of relevant legislative and industrial frameworks, including the Fair Work Act 2009, Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2024 and the Public Administration Act.
  • High-level dispute resolution skills, with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive workplace issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear reports, policy options, and strategic advice for senior management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to CSV.
  • Candidates should be highly organised, strategic thinkers with a strong commitment to fostering a fair, transparent, and compliant workplace culture.
