Job description: This is a Full Time, Fixed Term position until 30 June 2028.An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate and experienced health and safety professional to join the department and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our principals, school and department employees.About the DepartmentThe department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.About the DivisionEmployee Health Safety and Wellbeing DivisionThe Employee Health, Safety and Wellbeing Division (EHSW Division) is committed to the Department’s vision to create healthy and safe working and learning environments for Department employees to thrive and succeed.The EHSW Division performs it functions through five teams that span from prevention, through to response and recovery, along with strategy, advice and support. These teams adopt a holistic approach for supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce across schools, central and regional offices. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers’ Compensation policy advice and support, for both physical and mental health and wellbeing. The objectives of the Division are to:

  • promote positive wellbeing in learning and working environments
  • prevent against known and expected risks to health, safety and wellbeing
  • respond swiftly and effectively to manage potential issues as they emerge and prevent injuries
  • support employees to recover from injury and illness and return to work.

About the RoleThe primary purpose of the Senior Health and Safety Data Monitoring and Reporting Advisor role is to develop and deliver high quality policy, projects, strategies and innovative initiatives that improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our principals, school and department employees. This involves leading strategic policy projects at every stage of the policy cycle and includes research, analysis, development of policy options and the preparation of reports.Current priorities (that may evolve over time) include a focus on implementing a Data Strategy for the division and providing and/or undertaking review and evaluation projects as required. This is a senior role within the Strategy Team and at times may lead small project teams and working groups.This role requires:

  • the ability to implement the divisional Data Strategy to support data migration and application of consistent standards to ensure high-quality advice
  • high level project management skills to plan and deliver projects, identify risks, establish governance, monitor and evaluate performance and ensure continuous improvement
  • strong policy skills and the ability to prepare written briefs, reports and options papers to enable effective decision making and strong contract management skills
  • the ability to undertake research and analysis to identify and develop policies and strategies to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of employees
  • high level stakeholder management skills including the ability to consult, negotiate and influence key stakeholders and provide advice to central and regional teams.

  • Desirable: Bachelor’s degree and/or work experience in public sector policy, strategy and project management
  • Essential: Qualification and/or work experience in health and safetyor workers compensation.
