About the RoleThis Research Assistant position is a 12-month fixed-term role within the School of Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne, focusing on stroke rehabilitation research. Qualified speech pathologists with at least 3 years of experience working with people with neurological conditions will work on the UPLIFT stroke recovery trial, delivering aphasia therapy. The role reports directly to Associate Professor Kate Hayward, principal investigator of the UPLIFT trial and leader of the REPAIR Research Group.Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate with relevant staff to screen and recruit potential research trial participants.
- Communicate with participants with stroke, schedule assessments and intervention sessions, build intervention training schedules, and assist with administrative functions related to the research trial.
- Conduct intervention therapy sessions (i.e., aphasia therapy) in line with the research trial protocol.
- Assist with managing trial tracking programs, verifying record data, and reporting on participant recruitment and progress related to the research trial.
Who We Are Looking ForThe ideal candidate possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, effective problem-solving abilities, and excellent judgement. They are capable of using initiative to manage detailed projects, working both autonomously and collaboratively to achieve goals and meet deadlines.You will also have:
- A qualification in Speech Pathology and be eligible for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
- A minimum 3 years clinical experience working with people with neurological conditions especially people with stroke and aphasia.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with various stakeholders.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly with REDCap, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Power Point.
