Job description: DWS are seeking a Networks/Infrastructure Release Manager to increase capacity in an established release function, to maintain, and execute comprehensive Release Management processes across multiple applications and portfolios. This role involves collaborating with internal technical teams, business stakeholders, and third-party suppliers to ensure efficient and effective release management.

  • Demonstrable Release Management experience, preferably gained in a Utilities (Electricity) domain with Networks/infra/ITIL expertise
  • Strong knowledge of release management processes, scheduling, and coordination across multiple applications and portfolios.
  • Recent working experience in the power and/or utilities sector strongly preferred
  • Experience with tools and methodologies for managing and reporting releases.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, third-party suppliers, and delivery partners.
  • Expertise in maintaining documentation and ensuring compliance with change processes.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and Maintain Release Management Processes: Develop and uphold Release Management processes in consultation with internal ICT teams and business stakeholders, including third-party suppliers.
  • Execute Release Management Processes: Oversee scheduling, coordination, and management of releases for various applications and portfolios. Manage releases encompassing projects, application changes, operating system patches, security enhancements, and hardware upgrades.
  • Coordinate Release Content Reviews: Regularly review and refine release content based on prioritised business and non-functional backlogs, service requests, third-party applications, and operating system/environment updates.
  • Develop and Maintain Release Schedule: Create and manage a comprehensive release schedule, balancing technical dependencies, business requirements, compliance, and other priorities.
  • Drive Release Management Forums: Lead regular release management forums, utilising internal work management tools as the primary reference.
  • Conduct Reviews: Facilitate Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews to ensure preparedness and alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinate Documentation: Oversee the production of Release, Deployment, Run Books, and Implementation Plans, ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Liaise with Delivery Partners: Collaborate with system implementation partners to ensure smooth execution of releases.
  • Work with Release Engineers: Engage with release engineers to understand the impacts of code branches and merges on the release process.
  • Produce Release Reporting: Generate regular release reports and represent the release program and status in ICT Change Management activities and planning.
  • Ensure Compliance with Change Processes: Adhere to all ICT Change Processes, including Cyber assessments, Penetration testing, and Go/No-Go gates.
  • Manage Business System Release Schedule: Actively oversee Business System Release schedule using standard Project Management tools, including managing plans, risks, issues, and key decisions. Produce weekly Release Status Reports, Integration Systems Delivery, and other relevant functions.
  • Maintain Collaborative Team Environment: Foster a positive and collaborative environment with both business and delivery partners.
  • Provide ICT Delivery Leadership: Offer leadership on Release and Change processes, delivery methods, and Project Management tool usage, ensuring adherence and efficiency.
  • Champion Continuous Improvement: Advocate for continuous improvement leveraging extensive experience and driving enhancements in processes and practices.
