About the roleGovernment agency seeks an experienced Principal Advisor for Business Continuity to join them on a full-time, 10-month contract until end of June 2025. As the Principal Advisor for Business Continuity, you will be responsible for refreshing and enhancing the organisation’s business continuity and crisis management framework to ensure the organisation’s resilience in the face of disruptions.You will facilitate the planning process, challenge the effectiveness of existing plans, document plans and procedures and work towards improving efficiency and effectiveness in line with the organisation’s operating model and good practices.Key dutiesYour key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and refreshing business continuity management and crisis management plans and procedures to conform with standing direction and align with current standards, organisational model and the updated business continuity management policy.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, to develop, obtain endorsement of, and implement business continuity management and crisis management plans and procedures.
  • Communicating changes to plans and procedures to all staff so they understand the arrangements and their role in the event of a business disruption.
  • Leading the planning for and facilitation of a business continuity exercise at enterprise level and set up an enterprise exercise program.
  • Providing guidance and support to the organisation in considering the impacts of climate change on resilience.
  • Provide Senior Leaders and the Executive Leadership Team with expert advice and reporting on business continuity planning and practice.

Key Selection CriteriaThe skills and experience you will need to demonstrate include:

  • Experience of business continuity and crisis management planning in an operational and strategic setting.
  • Experience working strategically, developing, and implementing policy, systems and frameworks relevant to operational environment.
  • An understanding of the strategic issues in business continuity and the statutory framework within which the system operates.
  • Demonstrated experience in uplifting capability in business continuity and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and executives.


  • A relevant tertiary qualification in business continuity, business, risk management or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Experience in managing climate change risk impacts on enterprise resilience is desirable.
