Womens skateboarding is under attack, particularly skateboarding, a world leader in highlighting and celebrating it’s females is crippling its own athletes through unchecked Narrative.
To give you an idea why skateboarding is a leader, check some of the facts and points of pride below
1. The CEO of Skate Australia is Female.
2. The Previous President of Skate Australia Karen Doyle (female), is now the Vice president of Worldskate.
3. Australia has 3 skateboard judges at the Olympics, of this 2 out of 3 are female.
4. The National High Performance Coach is female.
5. The National Wellbeing Athlete Coach is Female.
6. Australia sent 9 skateboarders to Paris, of this, 5 of them are female.
7. The Skate Australia board is 50% Male and Female.
8. A number of great female run skateboard schools exist like Skatewell and Fastplant Skateboarding.
9. Prize money has been equal since 2010, which is a better pay disparity than the AFL and NRL.
As the largest member base in competition skateboarding in Australia, we expect that any data research would come across our desk, so we can reach out to members. There is a level of fact checking in narratives around females that is:
1. Information released without proper community consultation
2. Published information not fact checked.
Many Competition organisers and community groups are focusing on attaining funding to support the great womens programs in place and grow them, but are finding negative media and unchecked information is being released and tarnishing the reputation of all the amazing women in the sport.

There has been significant challenges for women in sport for decades, and skateboarding has been a step ahead of others as far as Equality goes.
What we are seeing now is a sport where all key management and executive positions are female, and they are being crucified for way of a good story.
People are fighting hard for more funding for these women, and chasing away opportunities for them with unchecked narrative.
Its a shame to see people focused on burying a women led sport organisation and drive a negative undertone while it should be celebrated
