Job description: Offer DescriptionLa Trobe University’s Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy is seeking an outstanding academic to join our team as a continuing full-time Lecturer in Politics. This is a teaching-focused role, but it offers a pathway to convert to a teaching and research role under La Trobe’s Enterprise Agreement 2023.About the RoleAs a Lecturer in Politics, you will:
- Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate programs, including the Politics Major (BA), the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and the Bachelor of Global Studies.
- Engage students through lectures, tutorials, workshops, and online learning.
- Provide constructive and timely feedback to support student success.
- Contribute to curriculum development, innovation, and evidence-based teaching practices.
- Teach into subjects that might include Political Economy, Political Ideas and Ideologies, Political Theory, Campaigns and Elections, Politics and Public Policy, and Global Studies.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the student learning experience.
About YouTo be successful, you will have:
- A PhD – conferred or submitted for examination – in Politics or a cognate discipline, preferably with expertise in political economy, political theory or comparative politics.
- Demonstrated ability to be effective in teaching and curriculum development in both face-to-face and online modes, as evidenced by, for example, high results on student feedback on teaching surveys relative to their peers, or through other forms of evidence.
- Evidence of innovative initiatives undertaken in the last two years that have improved the student experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively, collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a collaborative and collegial manner.
- Demonstrated disciplinary knowledge of Politics and/or Political Economy as evidenced in prior experience in teaching subjects in these disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and teach a broad range of subjects across different year levels.
- Demonstrated capacity to mark undergraduate level assessment tasks in the field of Politics.
