- Federal Government Agency – Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra based
- Initial 3 month contract – with up to 12 month extension
- Australian Citizen with ability to obtain Baseline Security Clearance
A Federal Government Agency is seeking experienced Data Scientist to design, analyse, and implement innovative statistical methodologies for workload and workforce modelling, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to develop a data-driven decision solution,Key duties and responsibilitiesDuties may include some or all of the following:
- Analysis: Analysing complex datasets to identify patterns and develop heuristics for model development.
- Model Development: Designing and developing statistical models to address specific business challenges and improve decision-making processes.
- Algorithm Implementation: Implementing and fine-tuning heuristic algorithms to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of statistical models.
- Probabilistic Modelling: Utilising probabilistic modelling techniques to forecast outcomes and assess risks.
- Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software developers, and business stakeholders, to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Documentation: Documenting methodologies, models, and algorithms to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- Communication: Communicating findings, insights, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and effective manner.
- Training and Mentorship: Developing and delivering training to fellow data scientists and non-statisticians in the organisation on new and novel statistical approaches relevant to the industry.
- Regulatory and Guideline Adherence: Ensuring all statistical work aligns with Agency guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Technical skills
- Proficiency in programming languages – SAS, Python, R, JavaScript
- Familiarity with big data technologies – Cloudera, Spark, HDFS, Hive
- Knowledge of Machine Learning & AI
- Experience with statistical software – SAS, Teradata
- Skills in data visualisation – Tableau, Power BI
- Expertise in optimisation algorithms
- Skills in probabilistic modelling techniques
- Understanding of data management frameworks, legislation, & policies
- Ability to document technical solutions
