About the RoleThis three-year postdoctoral fellowship is part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century. The successful candidate will investigate mesoscale storms over Australia and nearby oceans using observations and climate models to understand future changes in storm organisation and characteristics.As part of a collaborative, multi-institutional initiative, this role offers opportunities for impactful research, professional development, and engagement across various projects focused on the intersection of weather systems and climate change.Your responsibilities will include:
- Significantly contribute towards the research effort of the Centre Project: Weather Systems in a Warmer World, developing your research expertise with an increasing degree of autonomy.
- Under the guidance and support of Centre staff conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals.
- Contribute to scientific mentoring and supervision of research students.
- Engage with relevant Centre partners and stakeholders to foster collaborations and dissemination of research outcomes.
- Actively participate in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings as opportunities arise.
Who We Are Looking ForYou will have excellent oral and written communication skills, enabling you to collaborate positively within research-based teams and liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders. Your strong problem-solving abilities and innovative approach to scientific challenges are complemented by outstanding organisational skills, ensuring you can meet deadlines and complete projects efficiently.You will also have:
- Completion (or near completion) of a PhD in Atmospheric Science or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of meteorology, atmospheric dynamics, and climate processes.
- Strong computational skills in a programming environment such as Python.
- Demonstrated capacity to publish in high quality peer reviewed journals. For further information regarding responsibilities and requirements, please refer to the attached PD.
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
