Job description: Chandler Macleod is seeking a Freedom of Information Team Leader to join our state government client based in Melbourne CBD for a full time 6 month temporary contract. This role will be based 3 days in office and 2 days from home.Reporting to the Manager of the FOI Unit, this role provides a unique opportunity to lead and support a dedicated team while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and promoting transparency.As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Manage and process complex FOI requests under the FOI Act, including reviewing and releasing documents.
- Provide expert leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the FOI Unit team members.
- Prepare high-quality advice and recommendations for senior departmental officers on FOI-related matters.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote the timely and appropriate release of documents.
- Handle FOI-related reviews and complaints before the Victorian Information Commissioner and appeals before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Operate autonomously and with accountability, delivering outcomes within strategic and legislative frameworks.
- Ensure efficient time and resource management to meet competing deadlines and priorities effectively.
To be suitable for this role you will have:
- Minimum 5 years experience as a FOI officer
- A thorough understanding of the FOI Act and demonstrated experience processing complex FOI requests.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills in FOI and legislative contexts.
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality results.
- Ability to work with autonomy, accountability, and agility in a complex regulatory environment.
