The OpportunityThis role is critical to the provision of oversight of Council’s obligations and requirements for municipal public health and wellbeing planning, including custodianship and development of the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. The successful candidate will keep abreast of Victorian Government health priorities, and key local health needs, and advocate for these to be addressed through appropriate project, program and service responses by Council teams, and local agencies and organisations. You will identify initiatives needed to address the health needs of residents, and work towards the MV2040 vision of a healthy city.You will represent Council on matters of health and wellbeing, and build and maintain effective partnerships with external agencies and organisations to strengthen regional health planning and collaboration.Responsibilities
- Undertake and review research to identify key health needs.
- Represent the key health needs of the community, and respond to emerging issues, through planning, preparing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating effective policy, strategy, projects and other initiatives.
- Develop, review, evaluate and report on the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, ensuring that Council’s obligations are fully met to comply with the Local Government Act 2020 and Public Health Act 2008.
- Provide support to other departments to develop health-related planning where appropriate. For example, reviews of Council’s Disability Action Plan under the Victorian Disability Act 2006.
- Develop and where appropriate, implement, tools and systems to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions in delivering local health impacts.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary or post graduate qualifications in health, social planning or impact, community development, social science or a related field.
- Experience in collaborative project, program and policy/strategy design, implementation and measurement.
- Knowledge of program logic and/or systems thinking, especially as it applies to municipal health and wellbeing outcomes.
- Proven ability to implement preventative health initiatives and measure health impact and outcomes.
- Ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- The ability to engage and communicate effectively across a range of verbal and written mediums and with a variety of stakeholders.
