As well as the relevant skills and experience, we’re looking for people who are innovative, commercial and value the work that they do.The TeamThe Norton Rose Fulbright LLP General Counsel & Risk Team is run by one Partner who is based in London and who is at present assisted by a team in five locations: London, Newcastle, Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong. The Client Matter Intake (CMI) team screens new business acceptance for the Firm’s EMEA region for a variety of risks including Legal, Contractual and Commercial Conflicts.The practice is required to comply with a range of laws and regulatory rules as will the 26 offices within the firm. Failure to comply could be a breach of professional standards rules or a criminal, or in some cases civil, offence. The Compliance Team is responsible for overseeing compliance with those rules in order to avoid penalties and damage to our reputation that would result from a breach.The RoleWe are looking to recruit an entry-level officer to join the team. The role would be based in Melbourne with a direct reporting line into our Singapore office.Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake conflict searches, analysing reports, escalate potential issues for resolution to escalation points.
- Take ownership of new business intake matters, carrying out the full risk analysis and liaise with the various stakeholders to the matter, including Partners, associates, other Member Firms and communicate the progress of the matter at all stages to the interested parties.
- Ensure that the regulations (such as AML Directives, SRA Code of Conduct) are adhered to within the Firm and keep up to changes in the legal and regulatory landscape.
- Provide support and guidance to lawyers and PAs on the use of compliance systems, the various regulatory requirements and firm policies.
Key Skills and Experience
- Minimum 1 years’ experience working in a business, legal or related professional services firm.
- Have an interest in Risk and Compliance with a key interest in developing knowledge of the commercial, political and risk issues affecting our business.
- Excellent Computer skills with an ability to switch between different database interfaces and online tools.
- Excellent aptitude for research and familiarity with online research tools.
- Ability to critically evaluate a number of different sources, identifying the key risk issues.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise different work streams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Accuracy and an eye for detail.
- Ability to work under pressure with support.
- Show aptitude to work on increasingly complex checks
- Develop a working knowledge of other Regions professional rules.
- Self-driven individual
