If you’re passionate about leading innovative projects, preserving collections, and collaborating with a dynamic team to make history and technology collections accessible and impactful, this role could be your next great adventure!ABOUT THE POSITION:This position plays a key role in managing and preparing digital collection materials for ingestion into Museums Victoria’s Digital Asset Management System (DAMS). You will be responsible for identifying, describing, and registering pre-existing digital State Collection items, digital surrogates of analogue audiovisual materials, and ensuring their alignment with digital preservation workflows.This 12-week fixed-term role will involve collaborating with image management, information technology, and collection management teams to ensure digital assets are properly documented and preserved.Some of the key duties include:

  • Searching archive drives to identify digital State Collection items and matching them to existing catalogue records.
  • Documenting file locations, file names, collection registration numbers, and other key metadata for DAMS ingestion.
  • Developing cataloguing protocols for digital collections in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Creating new catalogue records as needed to support digital preservation.
  • Identifying and removing duplicate files while ensuring the integrity of digital assets.
  • Liaising with Image Management and IT teams to establish metadata and migration requirements.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of digital preservation practices at Museums Victoria.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE:

  • Experience in museum collection management and a strong understanding of social history and technology collections.
  • Knowledge of digital preservation principles and experience applying them to museum collections.
  • Proficiency in digital file formats, file management, and metadata standards.
  • Experience working with collection management databases (e.g., KE EMu) and familiarity with Digital Asset Management Systems (DAMS).
  • Strong time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work systematically.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience engaging both internal and external stakeholders.

OTHER INFORMATION:This is a VPS3, full-time or part-time, 12-week fixed-term position. The salary offered is $74,580 base on grade (pro rata) + 11.5% superannuation.
